Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers donate $1 million towards Japan earthquake relief efforts

The Los Angeles Dodgers, along with their superstar new signing Shohei Ohtani, are making a large donation towards earthquake relief efforts in Ohtani's home country of Japan. The Dodgers and Guggenheim Baseball are donating $1 million to support those affected by the 7.6 magnitude quake that struck in western Japan on New Year’s Day, the team said in a statement on social media. “Our thoughts are with all of Japan in the wake of this tragedy,” the team’s statement read.  Video shows man claiming to be famous bite, kick officer during arrest at bank Ohtani is also making his own personal contribution, the Dodgers said, but exactly how much was not immediately disclosed. “I would like to thank those who have joined in the recovery effort, and my hope is that we continue to come together to support those whose lives have been upended,” Ohtani said in a statement released along with the team's statement. The New Year's Day earthquake killed at least 84 people, Reuters reported on Th...

Eddie Bernice Johnson said Thursday that the trailblazing Texas congresswoman, who died over the weekend at age 89, passed away after getting an infection and accused a Dallas rehabilitation facility of neglect.Johnson, who was the first registered nurse elected to Congress, died on Dec. 31 at her Dallas home. Les Weisbrod, her family’s attorney and Johnson’s longtime friend, said at a news conference that her death was caused by an infection in her spine that developed after she was left in her own feces at Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation following back surgery.Weisbrod said he has given notice to Baylor Scott & White Health System and Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation that the family intends to file a lawsuit for medical negligence over her death. Blouses and T-shirts, suspended by hangers over a living room curtain rod, block out almost all sunlight. Bins and boxes, brimming with more clothes, hide the carpet. Empty takeout containers and Tupperware, with bugs trapped inside, cover the stove.The 74-year-old woman died in October in the hospital, and weeks later no one had come forward for her remains.
